Centered Equine is devoted to providing your equine friend with the utmost care and respect.  We have all experienced a sore or tense muscle and have felt the positive effects touch offers.  Certified Equine Sports Massage Therapist, Keely Ouellette-Danis, can translate this beneficial touch response to your equine counterpart!

Has your horse worked in any capacity, even as a pasture companion?  If so, your horse would most likely benefit from sports massage therapy!  Horses' bodies are 60% muscle which means they are prone to fatigue and spasms.  Sports massage therapy helps to relieve existing lesions and aids in preventing future ones.  Massage also increases range of motion and increases blood flow.  This increased blood flow gives the body access to beneficial nutrients while removing waste products stored in the muscles.  These benefits have shown to increase performance in all disciplines.

Benefits of Equine Sports Massage

There are countless benefits of massage, but here are a few to consider:

  • Increases range of motion.
  • Alleviates adhesions.
  • Increased blood flow allows for oxygen and nutrients to reach more areas of the body and wastes to be removed from these areas as well.
  • Increases the production of synovial fluid in joints.
  • Increases muscle tone, especially important if your horse is on stall rest.

Signs That Your Horse is Uncomfortable

These are some of the most common signs that your horse may exhibit if uncomfortable:

  • Head Tossing,
  • Lameness,
  • Choppy Gait,
  • Difficulty bending or extending,
  • Soreness,
  • Difficulty picking up correct lead or performing lead changes,
  • Cold Back,
  • or has a bad attitude.

Massage is NOT a substitute for veterinary care.  If your horse is experiencing a fever, is in shock, has a skin condition, or has cancer, massage therapy is not in your horse's best interest. Veterinary care is recommended.
